The Future of Called to Love
Posted on the Called to Love Retreat Facebook page on October 12, 2017:
Dearest Called to Love Community,
After many months of prayer, thought, and discussion, we (Amy and Jen) have decided to step down as co-directors of Called to Love after this next retreat. In 2013, God very clearly placed the vision of this ministry on our hearts and threw doors open to allow it to begin and grow and thrive. Now He is gently, but very clearly closing the door. Both of us have entered a new season of working outside the home, and our children are getting to ages where it is a part-time job to keep up with their needs and schedules. We are simply not able to continue to give our time and effort to the C2L retreat in the way that it deserves. Our families have taken a back-burner many times over the last 5 years, and it is time to bring our whole selves back to them.
We are not closing the door on future Called to Love retreats! However, our team is also in need of a respite, so the ministry will be on hiatus for at least one year after November. Our team was formed when we saw a need and felt the Lord specifically calling us to it. We are praying that, if it is the Lord’s will, He will form a new and revised team who would trust His leading in the unique ministry of supporting adoptive and foster moms.
We want you to know that meeting you, serving you, crying and worshipping with you, and loving you has absolutely been one of the greatest joys of our life. We pray that God has used Called to Love to provide encouragement and comfort to you, but it has also been a huge source of healing for us and our amazing team.
As we prepare for the fifth Called to Love retreat, our entire team is passionate about making it the best one yet! Our theme is SHINE, and we can think of no better way to say “Goodbye for now,” than to encourage each of us to be a light for Christ in our families, communities and world. We threw out the rule book and we’re doing some fun and different things this year. You won’t want to miss it!
Thank you for allowing us into your hearts and lives over the last 5 years. Many of you have become dear, cherished friends. Thank you for understanding this difficult decision—or giving us grace even if you do not understand it.
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:3-5
With much love,
